Essential Job Duties
- Receives and processes locate request; closes work orders upon completion.
- Locates and marks electric lines and infrastructure.
- Enters locate response within the required timeframe.
- Contacts GA 811 to establish new locate requests and renew existing requests.
- Verifies location of unmarked underground facilities for power crews.
- Responds to oversized load tickets; notifies companies responsible for the transportation of oversized loads of conflicts along predetermined routes.
- Attends large project meetings to establish marking agreements.
- Completes daily work orders, including turning service on and off.
- Reads electric meters electronically and manually; loads billing cycles.
- Performs audits on readings for low and high usage, missed reads, stopped meters, and thefts.
- Tests and changes out meters as needed.
- Performs service cut-off for non-paying customers; perform reconnects ad needed.
- Maintains inventory of equipment, tools, and supplies; stocks trucks; assists in ordering new items as needed.
- Responds to customer requests to troubleshoots and resolve problems.
- Prints notices for schedules power outages.
- Performs related duties.

The Power Operations Manager assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
Guidelines
Guidelines include GA 811 regulations, Electric Cities of Georgia guidelines, American Public Power Association safety manual, federal and state making standards, and city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
Complexity/Scope of Work
- The work consists of related utility location and technical duties. Inclement weather and field conditions contribute to the complexity of the position.
- The purpose of this position is to locate and mark underground utilities, to record power usage, test and replace electric meters. Successful performance contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of a variety of construction and maintenance projects and helps ensure the efficient and effective delivery of electric services to customers.
- Contacts are typically with co-workers, other city personnel, contractors, property owners, and members of the general public.
- Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, and to provide services.
- The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, or walking. The employee climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, utilizes the sense of smell, and frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects.
- The work is typically performed in an office, stockroom, warehouse, and outdoors. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and occasional cold or inclement weather. The employee works in the presence of electrified lines and in high voltage areas. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

Minimum Requirements of Position
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
