JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for managing the maintenance and operations of city parks and facilities.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Plans, implements, and administer the maintenance of city parks grounds, facilities, and/or athletic fields; troubleshoots maintenance problems at parks, facilities, and fields; assists in performing maintenance tasks as needed; conducts routine site inspections to monitor work in progress, ensure compliance with safety rules, and determine the need for future work.
- Hires, trains, assigns, schedules, directs, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines personnel.
- Assists in the development and management of budgets; gathers data and prepares reports; controls expenditures and directs purchases.
- Maintains equipment and supply inventory; inspects equipment of maintenance and repair needs; orders equipment and supplies as needed; researches equipment to determine upgrade needs; coordinates with vendors on equipment and supply orders.
- Operates a variety of tools and equipment used in the maintenance and repairs of parks and athletic facilities; performs manual labor.
- Coordinates support for a variety of special events.
- Manages contracts with service providers.
- Performs related duties.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Assistant Director – Operations assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include building codes, state and federal environmental regulations, playground safety inspection standards, rules governing the preparation of athletic fields, and city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- The work consists of varied supervisory, management, and technical duties. Inclement weather conditions contribute to the complexity of the position.
- The purpose of this position is to manage the maintenance of city parks grounds, sports fields, and facilities. Successful performance helps ensure safe, attractive, and well-maintained facilities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table, standing, or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
- The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position has functional supervision over assigned personnel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
