Description

The City of Acworth is looking to hire an Assistant to the City Manager. the position reports directly to the City Manager but will have an opportunity to also work with other city departments providing a variety of analytical and administrative project support to meet the goals and objectives of the City.

The City of Acworth was incorporated in 1860 and operates under the board-manager form of government. The Mayor and a five-member Board of Aldermen govern the City. Policy-making and legislative authority are vested in the Mayor and Board of Aldermen who are elected at large serving four-year staggered terms. A City Manager, who is appointed by and responsible to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen, directs the daily operations of the City.

The City is a full-service municipality providing, general government, public safety, recreation, public works, solid waste sanitation, electrical power, economic development and other services.

Acworth is located in the northwest corner of Cobb County; approximately 30 miles northwest of Atlanta. The City’s proximity to Interstate 75 and U.S. Highway 41 makes it easily accessible.


Job Summary
This position reports directly to the City Manager but will have an opportunity to also work with other city departments providing a variety of analytical and administrative project support to meet the goals and objectives of the City.

Essential Job Duties

  • Development of City codes and ordinances.
  • Development of City policies and procedures.
  • Participation in budget development activities including financial research and program recommendations.
  • Operational research, productivity analyses and/or management studies.
  • Work on economic development projects.
  • Attendance and participation in all City Council meetings and work sessions.
  • Communication of project and program information to all levels within the organization.
  • Attends professional development conferences and workshops.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements of Position

  • Must possess a Master's Degree in Public Administration, Public Policy, or similar program of study or be a current graduate student in a program with a graduation date no later than June 2020 from an accredited college or university.
  • Must possess a current, valid Georgia Driver’s License.
  • Must successfully pass criminal background and Motor Vehicle checks.
  • Must successfully pass post-offer drug screening.
