VOLUNTEER WORK SUMMARY
This is a non-paid, educational internship designed for college students seeking firsthand exposure to the operations and functions of the Police Department. The internship provides students with practical experience to support academic requirements while gaining a comprehensive understanding of administrative, support, and organizational functions of a municipal police department. Interns are non-sworn, non-certified, and do not possess arrest authority or law enforcement powers.
MAJOR DUTIES
• Assists designated units with clerical, administrative, and organizational support.
• Observes departmental operations across multiple divisions including Administration, Records, Training, and Community Outreach.
• Assists with filing, data entry, document preparation, and general office support under supervision.
• Assists with preparation of non-confidential correspondence, reports, and materials.
• Assists with logistical support for meetings, training sessions, and community events.
• Maintains confidentiality of all information encountered during the internship.
• Complies with all City and Police Department policies and procedures.
• Performs other related duties as assigned consistent with an educational internship.
LIMITATIONS OF AUTHORITY
• This position is non-sworn and non-certified.
• Interns shall not make arrests, conduct investigations, carry weapons, or exercise law enforcement authority.
• Interns shall not work patrol shifts or emergency response assignments.
• All work is observational or administrative and conducted under supervision.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
• Knowledge of basic office practices and procedures.
• Knowledge of professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical standards.
• Knowledge of computers and common office software programs.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
Work is assigned and supervised by designated Police Department staff. Work is closely monitored for compliance with departmental policies, confidentiality requirements, and educational objectives.

Guidelines include City and Police Department policies, confidentiality standards, and applicable laws. These guidelines are clear and specific and require strict compliance.
COMPLEXITY / SCOPE OF WORK

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Current enrollment in an accredited college or university.
